Increasing social justice, reducing economic inequality, preventing severe learning loss, and improving student mental health are just a few of the moral imperatives. School leaders globally are facing a daunting task.
I’m dailykos user #211 and a four-term elected school board member, but haven’t posted here in a while. Because reopening of schools impacts just about everything, I thought dkos readers might be interested in the complexity of this topic and have some thoughts to share.
In this Medium article, I share the substantial impacts of this decision on students, parents, teachers, other school staff, the economy, local business, health care workers, school district finances, and on racial, socio-economic and gender equity, along with some shocking and heartbreaking statistics and photos. The top priority must be the academic, physical, social, and emotional development of the students.
